Listen, I know we’re all tired of hearing about Taylor Swift. Yes, you might’ve liked 1989, and you might still throw it down to “Love Story” if it comes on at a wedding, but even if you’re a big fan of Swift, you have to admit that we’ve been hearing her name a little too often as of late.

But what if that’s all part of the plan? What if the United States’ love for Taylor Swift is not a consequence of her catchy music, but an MKUltra-style plot to make us all slaves to the government?

The people over at Fox News don’t seem to be taking the accusation that far — but that hasn’t stopped them from floating the idea that Taylor Swift is a psyop.

In a segment on Fox News, Jesse Watters did his best Tucker Carlson impression to announce a new conspiracy theory: What if Taylor Swift is a puppet for the powers that be in Washington?

“Around four years ago, the Pentagon psychological operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset during a NATO meeting,” Watters bloviated. “What kind of asset? A psyop for combating online misinformation.” He then played a clip showing what he purported to be an employee of the Pentagon giving a presentation to NATO officials in 2019.

Of course, that’s not what the video showed — it was actually a woman named Alicia Marie Bargar, “a research engineer in applied physics at Johns Hopkins University who has no known contracts or relationship with the U.S. military,” according to The Independent. In the speech, Bargar was mereley discussing how someone like Taylor Swift *could* be used to influence the American populace.

Despite this, Watters brought on former FBI agent Stuart Kaplan to imply that efforts like Swift’s partnership with Vote.org back in September could be a sign that she, either willingly or unwittingly, is being used by Intelligence.

“It is possible that Taylor Swift, quite frankly, does not know that she is being utilized in a covert manner to swing voters, but the bottom line is that the Biden administration is savvy, identifying how many followers and how many voters potentially she can influence with either right information or misinformation,” Kaplan stated. “She certainly can swing the voters.”

Now, I’m not outright denying the idea that Taylor Swift has been utilized by the American intelligence apparatus. The CIA’s used celebrities before, and lord knows they’ll either do it again or, more likely, they’re doing it currently. That said, I’m going to need more proof than “people like her” and “she made a lot of young people register to vote.” Also, the Pentagon has denied the allegation, but who are we to trust them?

In short, Taylor Swift is likely just a pop star who used her platform in the same way that pretty much every other celebrity did. But hey, if her next single is called something like “Turn in Your Parents’ Guns to the Local Police,” I’ll eat my words.
